24. SELF-MEDICATION
- Comes from Section 7, on Map 4
Self-medication and the use of recreational drugs are areas far too broad to be handled effectively here. A map for the treatment of alcohol misuse is available from the main menu.
Whatever, drugs the person is using, it is helpful to obtain, if you can,-
- a list of all drugs used;
- the frequencies and amounts of each;
- what each is used for;
- how effective each one is at serving its intended function;
- what the side effects are; and
- how amenable the person is to changing his/her use
Medical Referral
A physician may be helpful at some point, to suggest more effective medications or to help the person realize the dangers of the drugs he/she is currently using. See Section 22.
